Stem Cells: Knee Pain Relief without Surgery

Stem Cell Therapy has just been featured in the news again. This time in The Herald News.

“People suffering from arthritis, tendonitis, or previous surgery failures may benefit from amniotic stem cell treatment.”

“A patient with arthritic knees or a partially torn shoulder rotator cuff can be injected with amniotic stem cells, and begin the healing process that’s more than three times faster than standardized care,” explains Dr. Frank Ostir, Ostir Physical Medicine in Joliet.  The amniotic stem cells are derived from caesarian section deliveries; certified U.S. Food and Drug Administration labs screen the fluid.”

If you are suffering from chronic knee and back pain, it is important to be aware of all your treatment options before considering surgery. A new technique to heal the knee and other joints in the body uses stem cells. Stem cells are undifferentiated cells. They can become other cells in the body. The cells used to treat knee and back pain as well as other chronic conditions are called amniotic stem cells, and they can regrow into cartilage or bone cells depending on the environment they are put in.

The Procedure

Once a patient undergoes an initial consultation to determine if stem cells would help, the actual procedure takes about 15 minutes.

Ostir explains, “The patient usually rests on the day of the injection, and may then resume regular activity.  About 80 percent of healing occurs in the first two months, due to the rate of the stem cells replicating.”

“Stem cells have anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties, plus human growth factors.  They speed up the body’s own healing abilities, with no risk of tissue rejection,” Ostir says.  “There are no toxic substances or side effects to this treatment that gives the best results in the shortest amount of time.”

According to the source:

Amniotic stem cells can regenerate bones, muscles, connective tissues, and heart and lung tissues.  Knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, and other joints have been repaired with non-invasive stem cell injections.

Ostir has practiced in Joliet for more than 25 years.  His goal continues to be to provide state-of-the-art pain relief options to his patients.  As a result, his rehabilitation clinic has evolved into a medically integrated facility.

There are also other types of stem cells

  • Mesenchymal cells are taken from bone marrow, usually from the patient’s hip. This may be painful depending on the technique used. After the cells have been isolated from the marrow, they are combined with platelets from your blood, which contain growth factors.
  • To make the procedure a fast one, many practitioners combine the platelet and cell mixture with platelet-rich plasma or another substance to encourage the speedy reproduction of stem cells. The cells and their growth factors are then injected into the area of the body that needs repair.

Today, stem cells therapy becomes a commonplace for those people who want to avoid surgery. If you are one of those people who are in search for an alternative to surgery then call the Stem Cell Professionals.
